Have you ever driven a car with a lot of stuff in the back? I have and it is annoying.
There is the clinging and clanging sounds and not to mention the constant checking out the rearview mirror to see if everything is alright back there.
It breaks my concentration, while I should be focused on driving forward.
That’s kind of like carrying emotional baggage from the past relationship into a new one, isn’t it?
When you leave a relationship, it’s like moving out.
You bring out boxes of memories along with the things you haven’t sorted out yet.
You stuff that all in the back of your car and start driving forward.
But uh-oh, you haven’t disposed of the stuff that you don’t want to keep anymore, things you no longer need. That’s when things get annoying.
Those stuff have a way of telling you that they’re still there, because they make sounds.
You check your rearview mirror often, you look to the back as you drive your car in the highway.
And you know what you might miss? Your exit. That’s right.
You might actually miss the way to your destination.
So here’s the deal.
Leave relationships if you must.
But be sure to leave the things that held you to it too.
Let memories be memories.
Tuck the fond ones in the corner of your heart and lock it in.
Revisit only when you have the courage to know that it will never take over your life.
Move on and open your heart to something new, something better.
That’s called moving forward.
Enjoy,
Ivan
